Design and build quality

The UPERFECT BE156EF is a portable monitor built to be used on the move.

It has a minimalist, compact design with thin bezels, with the 15.6″ display taking up practically the entire front face.

On the left side we find the 2 USB-C ports and the mini HDMI port, used to connect to a computer, smartphone, tablet, or even a games console.

On the right side are the menu navigation buttons and the 3.5mm jack.

On the back of the UPERFECT BE156EF there is a hidden kickstand that helps keep the screen stable and lets you adjust the tilt from 0º (fully closed support) up to 90º, plus a VESA mount to attach it to a stand, whether on a wall or a monitor arm.

The problem with this kickstand is that it covers the USB and HDMI ports, meaning the stand always needs to be open to use this monitor via cable or even to charge it.

On the bottom we also find 2 1W stereo speakers.

In terms of dimensions, the UPERFECT BE156EF measures 356 × 226 × 5.5 mm and weighs just 790 grams, making it easy to carry around.

In the box we find several accessories to help with connectivity. Besides the charger, the box includes 2 USB-C to USB-C cables, a mini HDMI to HDMI cable, and 3 U-shaped male-to-female adapters for each of the cables.

The box also includes a compact, foldable Bluetooth keyboard to connect to a computer or smartphone and work on the move.

This keyboard is very simple to connect and offers a decent experience. Although it is not the most comfortable for typing and does not have a Portuguese layout, it stands out for being easy to carry and usable anywhere.

Connecting to your smartphone or computer

Connecting with the UPERFECT BE156EF is quite simple and quick, with the choice of either a wired or a wireless connection.

If we opt for a wired connection, we can connect another device via HDMI or USB-C.

Here you need to pay attention to the cable being used, as not all of them will support this connection. It is best to use the cable included in the box to ensure maximum compatibility.

If you prefer a fully wireless connection, you can opt for Miracast. This protocol uses WiFi to connect to another device. Here we can use either Windows or macOS wireless screen sharing, as well as smartphones and tablets.

With computers, the image is immediately adapted as if we had connected a second portable monitor, although a recommended zoom of 150% is preset. As this felt too large to us, we adjusted it to 100% and found that to be the perfect resolution.

Moving on to smartphones, we have two possible options. Either we use screen mirroring, which duplicates the smartphone’s screen, or desktop mode.

The latter, which most smartphones already include, offers an experience similar to a computer operating system.

As well as being able to use a mouse and keyboard, we also have access to all our apps.

Since the UPERFECT BE156EF includes an accelerometer, it can automatically rotate the image between portrait and landscape.

Display settings

The UPERFECT BE156EF includes a settings menu that lets you customise the picture experience.

As well as being able to switch the system to Portuguese, you can configure picture settings (contrast, brightness, etc.), turn on HDR mode, manage ECO and power-saving settings, set the screen aspect ratio, among other options.

This is also where we can check the monitor’s battery level.

Sound quality

The UPERFECT BE156EF includes 1W stereo speakers that let you hear sound directly from the monitor.

Given the low power of each speaker, we were not expecting top-tier quality. As expected, the sound is not the most refined or balanced, but it does reach a good maximum volume, clearly suited to occasional moments of listening to music or watching videos.

Image quality and connection stability

In terms of image quality, the UPERFECT BE156EF is a pleasant surprise.

Although the viewing angles are not exceptional, since the image darkens slightly when viewed from the side, it offers great sharpness, colours, and brightness.

This experience does, however, vary depending on the type of connection used. It is clearly noticeable that the wireless connection suffers from more compression, making the image slightly “duller” and less sharp, although without compromising the high-definition quality.

The wired connection, on the other hand, offers maximum compatibility and quality. It is in this configuration that we get the most out of this monitor’s capabilities, achieving good colours, high brightness, and good sharpness.

In terms of connection stability, we always felt a high degree of stability, both wired and wireless. However, it is worth noting that the best possible experience is always ensured by HDMI or USB-C.

With the wireless connection, there is always a very slight latency that is made worse by the Bluetooth connection to the keyboard, as the system itself warns when you connect this device.

With a 60Hz refresh rate and 30ms response time, this is a monitor designed more for work and multimedia, with other products in the range available for those wanting a deeper gaming experience, such as the UPERFECT GR16EQ.

Battery life

The UPERFECT BE156EF features an 8000 mAh battery that the brand rates at 4 hours of battery life.

Having tested it, we can conclude that the advertised figure is not too far from reality. In our use, we managed to use this monitor for more than 3 hours straight, a figure that also depends on the brightness level used.

One thing we found less than ideal was the low battery warning that appears from 15% onwards. It keeps appearing and disappearing and, since it takes up a good part of the centre of the screen, it makes the display harder to use during the final minutes.

Verdict on the UPERFECT BE156EF

The UPERFECT BE156EF is a genuinely interesting proposition for anyone who needs a second screen on the move.

In a market where most portable monitors still depend on cables to work, the ability to connect via Miracast or AirPlay with no prior setup makes a real difference day to day, especially when giving presentations or working in shared spaces.

Wired image quality is a pleasant surprise, with good sharpness, colours, and brightness for this price segment. The wireless connection is stable but does involve some visible compression in the image, making it better suited to text work and browsing than to photo or video editing. For anyone who demands the best possible image quality, the USB-C or HDMI cable is always the better option.

The accessory bundle included in the box is a strong point worth highlighting. There are three points worth bearing in mind before buying. Real-world battery life of a little over three hours falls slightly short of the four hours advertised, which may not be enough for longer working days without access to charging.

The low battery warning that appears from 15% onwards and repeatedly takes over the centre of the screen is clearly the most frustrating part of the experience, and something UPERFECT should fix with a software update.

It is also not possible to connect a cable or charger with the stand closed.

With a 199$ price tag, the UPERFECT BE156EF is one of the most complete options available in this segment for anyone who values portability and connection versatility above all else.
