HUAWEI is preparing to unveil, on 2 September, a new generation of its smartwatch line aimed at sports enthusiasts.
We are talking about the HUAWEI Watch GT 7, a series that will consist, as usual, of two models: the base version and the HUAWEI Watch GT 7 Pro.
It is precisely the latter that we are currently testing, and we are sharing our first impressions ahead of the official launch.

Design has not changed much, but brings new colours and a more polished look
If you are expecting a major visual transformation with this new watch generation, that is something we will not be seeing with these new models.
HUAWEI has maintained its familiar design approach, preserving the balance between sporty and casual aesthetics — allowing the HUAWEI Watch GT 7 Pro to be paired with both athletic and more everyday styles.

As the brand has accustomed us to, the robust build and quality materials remain — although this year metal takes precedence, as there will be no titanium variant.
The rotating crown and action button with electrode on the right side remain, as does the display, which keeps the same dimensions — with peak brightness still reaching 3,000 nits.
The main aesthetic novelty this year is the colour range. The HUAWEI Watch GT 7 Pro is available in black for those looking for a more understated option, or in green and yellow for a bolder, more sporty look.

New, more comfortable strap
Another new feature of the HUAWEI Watch GT 7 Pro — and for us one of the most meaningful — is the new strap.
Instead of having the strap end held in a buckle that tends to come loose, it now has a channel for the end to thread through on the inside.
This makes it not only a visual improvement but also more practical to put on and more comfortable for everyday wear.
The strap matches the colour of the HUAWEI Watch GT 7 Pro — black, green, or yellow — and is made from fluoroelastomer.

New ski mode and improvements to cycling and golf tracking
HUAWEI has been investing in developing monitoring features for an ever-wider range of sports, aiming to establish the GT series as a reference for athletes.
Following cycling and golf, the Chinese brand has now extended its focus to snow sports, with advanced skiing tools integrated into the watch.
The HUAWEI Watch GT 7 Pro now has access to maps for over 3,000 ski resorts worldwide. It is also the first smartwatch to support indoor skiing and snowboarding monitoring, and it integrates a direction-change detection system to optimise activity tracking.
GPS positioning has also been improved with the new AI-XDR algorithm, which enables significantly more precise location tracking — even in urban or covered environments where positioning is typically more affected — ensuring accurate tracking of the user’s position at all times.

Cycling has also received updates in the HUAWEI Watch GT 7 Pro, with new features for urban, road, and long-distance cycling.
It is now possible to import routes, detect climbs with real-time data, plan ascents on imported routes, receive elevation data, and get alerts for sharp bends.
Golf monitoring has also been updated in the Pro model, with new distance and shot visualisations to make real-time and post-session analysis more useful and complete.
For those who like to log their activities, connectivity with Komoot and Strava has also been improved.
Health and sleep monitoring
In addition to sport, health and sleep monitoring has also been improved in the HUAWEI Watch GT 7 Pro.
Beyond more detailed and comprehensive sleep tracking, a new health metric has been introduced called Physical Readiness.
Drawing on the various health and sleep metrics, it now displays the user’s physical capacity and body recovery status as a percentage. This indicator requires 7 consecutive nights of wear before it can show accurate data.

Contactless payments with Curve
The HUAWEI Watch GT 7 Pro also supports contactless payments directly from the watch.
Since the Chinese brand does not have access to Google Wallet, this is handled through Curve — which requires setting up the service and installing the app on the watch.
Battery life remains one of the biggest strengths
HUAWEI’s biggest trump card with its watches continues to be the exceptional battery life on offer.
The Chinese brand guarantees up to 21 days of battery life with light use on the HUAWEI Watch GT 7 Pro, with this figure dropping to 10 to 14 days with constant notifications and more frequent interactions.
In trail or running mode with GPS active, it can last around 51 hours.

Launching on 2 September
The new HUAWEI Watch GT 7 series will be officially launched on 2 September at an event in Munich.
