Foldables have evolved quickly but continue to carry two long-standing problems — inner display durability and limited battery life.

HONOR has attempted to solve both in the Magic V6 by integrating nano-crystalline anti-scratch glass technology and a 6,660 mAh silicon-carbon battery that promises 24 hours of battery life on the inner display.

Design and build quality

Honor has been working to make its Magic line a benchmark for both thinness and hinge and structural durability.

The Honor Magic V6 upholds that commitment and positions itself as the thinnest foldable on the market, measuring just 4 mm thick when open and 8.75 mm when folded.

However, being among the thinnest does not mean it is fragile. Honor has engineered the structure of this smartphone to raise its structural integrity, with the primary focus on the hinge.

Analise honor magic v6

The hinge structure can withstand 2,800 MPa of pressure, demonstrating the exceptional compressive strength this folding mechanism is capable of sustaining — the foundation for the 500,000 open-and-close cycle test this smartphone passed.

To further protect the smartphone from external factors, it also carries IP68 and IP69 certification.

It also integrates a reinforced shield layer on the display to improve scratch and drop resistance, which we cover in more detail below.

The review unit we tested came in gold, with a micro-dotted rear finish that gives it a premium, refined look. Other colours feature different finishes — the red variant, for example, has a velvety textured finish.

The top edge has a microphone and speaker, while the bottom edge houses another speaker and microphone, a USB-C port, and the SIM card slot.

On the back there is a large camera module occupying a significant portion of the rear panel, housing the three camera sensors and the LED flash.

HONOR Anti-scratch Nano-crystalline Shield display

The Honor Magic V6 features an HONOR Anti-scratch Nano-crystalline Shield designed to increase the durability of the device’s displays.

According to Honor, this anti-scratch layer is 10× more resistant to drops, 15× more resistant to scratches, and 3× more resistant to wear — ideal for those who carry their smartphone in a bag alongside other objects that may come into contact with it.

It also incorporates an advanced silicon nitride 5600 coating that reduces display reflectivity from the 4.2% average of a traditional screen down to 1.5% on the Honor Magic V6’s display.

The result is an anti-reflective display that greatly improves visibility during the day, especially in direct sunlight, largely eliminating the mirror effect that conventional screens can produce.

The inner display also features an Ultra-Strong Reinforced UTG layer that helps conceal the hinge crease. It is still visible when the phone is viewed at an angle, but in normal day-to-day use it is virtually imperceptible.

Both displays have adaptive refresh rates of 1–120 Hz, 4,320 Hz PWM, and stylus support. In terms of brightness, the inner display reaches 5,000 nits and the outer display 6,000 nits. They also support Dolby Vision and HDR Vivid.

MagicOS experience

Alongside the significant investment in the physical hardware experience, Honor has also put considerable effort into software optimisation for this smartphone.

The Honor Magic V6 ships with MagicOS 10, with 7 years of guaranteed updates, and a visual style that draws inspiration from the Liquid Glass aesthetic of iOS 27.

In terms of usability it is simple to navigate, with a wide range of theme and navigation customisation options.

Apps are all organised on the home screen by default, though an app drawer is also available for grouping everything together. Out of the box there is some bloatware — pre-installed apps — but these can be uninstalled if unwanted.

MagicOS 10 is built to take advantage of the foldable form factor, integrating several features that make sense in this format. There is a bottom app dock similar to the Windows and Mac taskbar, where you can pin your favourite apps.

Analise honor magic v6

There is also a side panel where quick-access apps can be kept.

To make app interaction easier, they can be opened as floating windows, allowing you to interact with them overlaid on top of other apps.

Analise honor magic v6

Alternatively, you can use split-screen mode which, on this device, supports either two or three windows simultaneously — in the three-window layout you swipe between all three to interact with each in turn.

For photos, you can shoot using the inner display or use the outer display to take selfies with the rear cameras for higher quality results.

MagicOS 10 is also one of the interfaces that makes the most of AI, with several built-in features beyond the Gemini and Google Photos image editing tools.

Honor AI includes a range of tools covering image editing, text writing, translation, content summarisation, and deepfake detection in video calls.

Also on the AI front, it includes a 3-month Google AI Pro offer with 5 TB of cloud storage and access to the most advanced AI models.

In the settings we found a reference to an AI button that does not appear to exist — as on other models from the brand — which initially led us to think it might be a software error.

It turns out the AI button does exist, but it is incorporated into the power button through a light press rather than a full press.

Apple ecosystem integration

Honor has been making a concerted effort to position itself as the natural alternative for anyone looking to switch from an iPhone to an Android smartphone.

To that end, beyond the iOS-inspired visual style, the brand has also been working to improve compatibility between its devices and the Apple ecosystem.

The HONOR Magic V6 can currently be used as a secondary display for a MacBook, allows notification sharing with an iPhone or Apple Watch, supports quick pairing with AirPods, and provides direct access to iCloud.

It also supports instant file sharing with a Mac and quick hotspot sharing with an iPhone.

What is a foldable display actually useful for?

Traditional smartphones are, for many people, the perfect solution for their daily routine.

However, those who use their smartphone for work face a constant need to view documents, write emails, or review spreadsheets on the go.

Analise honor magic v6

This is precisely where the Honor Magic V6 and other book-style foldables stand out. Opening the phone gives you a much larger display area that brings the experience a step closer to a laptop.

Analise honor magic v6

The extra screen real estate is also an advantage for some games, video editing, and other tasks that benefit from more space.

For media consumption, however, the gain is less significant given this device’s aspect ratio. Watching a film or series on the inner display results in black bars top and bottom, meaning the actual viewing area is only marginally larger than the outer display. For media, the newer wide-format Fold devices are the better option.

Performance

Powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, this smartphone delivers the kind of top-end performance expected of any flagship.

There is no app or game this smartphone cannot handle with ease, making it a reliable partner for demanding tasks.

Although thermal management is one of Honor’s stated priorities, heat generation remains a difficult challenge to solve in such a thin chassis.

Analise honor magic v6

We never recorded particularly high temperatures — nothing uncomfortably hot to the touch — but the device does warm up fairly easily, becoming warm on the back panel.

We consider this normal behaviour and in line with other foldables, particularly since temperatures never reached a level that would be uncomfortable or raise any concern about the health of internal components.

In benchmark testing, we recorded the following scores:

  • Antutu Benchmark V11 – 3,433,445 points
  • Geekbench V6
    • Single-core – 3,546 points
    • Multi-core – 10,023 points

Camera

The Honor Magic V6 features a 50 MP wide-angle main camera (f/1.6, OIS) alongside a 50 MP ultra-wide (f/2.2) and a 64 MP telephoto (f/2.5, OIS).

Analise honor magic v6

While foldables typically involve a trade-off in camera capability compared to non-folding models, the Honor Magic V6 is a pleasant surprise.

In daylight photography we achieved excellent results — sharp images, good colours, a wide dynamic range, and impressive detail.

Night photography also delivers strong results, with the smartphone handling light and artificial illumination well — producing attractive images with good colours, solid contrast, and impressive detail given the conditions.

The Honor Magic V6’s zoom and ultra-wide shots maintain consistent performance as you increase the zoom level. The telephoto results stand out in particular — 3× and even 6× produce excellent results, even at night. At the maximum digital zoom of 120×, images become heavily pixelated, though the system does attempt to recover detail through AI processing.

Portrait mode remains one of Honor’s standout features, maintained through a partnership with Harcourt — the Parisian photography studio famous for its artistic black-and-white portraits — for exclusive filters, alongside Honor’s own additional effects.

Battery life

In terms of battery life, the Honor Magic V6 consistently lasted more than a day with moderate use — social media, notifications, and regular messaging.

With heavier use involving gaming and more graphically intensive tasks, it should be enough to make it home with some charge remaining.

Fast charging runs at 80W, meaning the 6,660 mAh battery charges in just under an hour. Wireless charging is also available and takes approximately one hour.

Who is the HONOR Magic V6 for?

The HONOR Magic V6 is aimed at those who want a flagship foldable with a focus on durability and productivity — particularly users who rely heavily on their smartphone for work and value the larger display for multitasking.

The native Apple ecosystem integration makes it especially appealing for those who use Apple devices for work but want to try Android without losing continuity with their iPhone, Mac, or AirPods.

Analise honor magic v6

It is also a strong choice for those who worry about damaging a foldable in daily use, given HONOR’s focus on hinge and display durability. The IP68 and IP69 certification and the nano-crystalline anti-scratch shield significantly reduce concerns about day-to-day wear.

At €1,419 it is competitively positioned against the top foldables from Samsung and Google, with the advantage of a larger outer display and more generous battery life. It is not the best choice for those who prioritise photography above all else, as foldables continue to lag behind conventional flagships in that regard, nor for those who want the most compact possible form factor when folded.

Our verdict on the HONOR Magic V6

The HONOR Magic V6 is a foldable that impresses on several fronts. The 8.75 mm folded thickness is genuinely remarkable and brings it much closer to the feel of a conventional smartphone than most foldables manage.

Hinge and display durability are clearly the strongest bets of this generation, with the nano-crystalline layer visibly reducing reflections and making the display far more usable in direct sunlight.

Analise honor magic v6

MagicOS 10 is one of the best-adapted interfaces for the foldable form factor, with three-window split screen, the bottom app dock, and Fast-flex for AI making the large display genuinely more productive — not merely a bigger screen.

The Honor Magic V6’s Apple ecosystem integration is a genuine differentiator that Samsung does not offer to the same depth.

Analise honor magic v6

Camera performance is a pleasant surprise for a foldable, especially the 3× and 6× zoom which delivers consistent results even at night. Portrait mode with the Harcourt filters remains one of the most creative on the market.

Analise honor magic v6

Heating under intensive tasks is the main negative, though temperatures never reach a concerning level. The absence of a dedicated physical AI button — with the functionality folded into the power button via a light press — may catch users off guard initially.

At €1,419 with three months of Google AI Pro and 5 TB of cloud storage included, the HONOR Magic V6 is a very competitive proposition in the premium foldable segment.

Techbit thanks Honor for providing the Honor Magic V6 for review.
