WUBEN X5 review — Torch, green laser, and UV in a single pocket-sized body

A pocket torch that only illuminates is becoming increasingly outdated.

Anyone who carries gear every day — for work, outdoor activities, or simply to be prepared for any situation — values tools that do more than one thing without adding weight or bulk.

The WUBEN X5 is a 3-in-1 EDC torch that combines in a single flat CNC-machined aluminium body a 1,300-lumen main torch with a 118-metre beam, a 2W 365nm UV light for inspection and detection of stains and fluids, and a green laser pointer visible in daylight.

At just 21mm thick and 128 grams with the battery included, it fits comfortably in a pocket without creating any noticeable bulk. The dual-power system — a rechargeable 1,200mAh battery via USB-C with AAA battery backup compatibility — ensures you are never left without light when you need it most.

A moonlight mode at 1 lumen with up to 200 hours of runtime and IP65 water and dust resistance complete a proposition built for demanding daily use.

As for the price, the WUBEN X5 is available for €80 on the official store or €81 on Amazon.

Design and build quality

The WUBEN X5 is a robust pocket torch — available only in black — built in a slim all-metal body just 21mm thick.

While not the most compact torch around, it weighs only 128 grams with the battery included, making it light and easy to carry.

At the front, three distinct light sources are visible — one for the main torch, one for the UV, and the smallest for the green laser.

On one side sits a rotary selector for switching between the lock position, main torch, and UV light.

Just ahead of it is the USB-C charging port, protected behind a sliding cover.

Rotating the torch reveals a clip that allows it to be carried clipped to a trouser pocket or any other area where the clip can be secured.

Rotating further reveals a sliding button that locks, unlocks, and opens the battery compartment.

At one end sit two tactical buttons — one to switch the torch or UV on, off, and cycle through intensity levels, and a dedicated button for the green laser.

This end also serves as the battery compartment lid, which comes fitted with a 1,200mAh rechargeable battery as standard — though this can be removed and replaced with 4 AAA batteries.

Unfortunately, the WUBEN X5 has no magnetic mount, meaning it cannot be attached to metal surfaces to work hands-free.

Lighting modes

The WUBEN X5 packs 3 lighting modes into a single body.

Starting with the main torch, output reaches up to 1,300 lumens with a claimed beam distance of 180 metres.

The torch has several output levels, cycled through with a firm click of the dedicated button. It remembers the last selected mode, and a light, sustained press quickly recalls that last intensity level.

Switching to the 2W 365nm UV light via the rotary selector on the side works in the same way, with the same button used to switch it on and off.

As for the green laser, the version sold in Portugal is Class 1 — the safer option for everyday use, with output below 0.5mW. The Class 3 version with 1–5mW is sold in the United States and Canada. The European version is therefore less powerful but safer for the eyes of people and animals nearby.

User experience and lighting

The WUBEN X5 is a very practical torch thanks to the range of functions it brings together.

analise wuben x5

In terms of lighting, the WUBEN X5 has 5 output modes — eco, low, medium, high, and turbo — at a colour temperature of 4,800K.

Using the built-in battery, turbo delivers a peak of 1,300 lumens with a gradual step-down to around 400 lm; high reaches 350 lm; medium 150 lm; low 50 lm; and eco just 1 lm.

Switching to AAA batteries reduces turbo to a peak of 850 lm, while the remaining modes stay the same.

In terms of visibility, the brand claims up to 200 metres in the highest mode.

analise Wuben x5

In real-world use, the beam quality is genuinely impressive, covering a wide area with ease. The 200-metre claim is a little generous — real-world effective range is closer to 100–120 metres with some effort.

Switching between modes is straightforward with a single click of the top button, with the biggest jump occurring between high and turbo.

analise wuben x5

Turbo mode sustains its maximum intensity for around 30 seconds before gradually stepping down towards the high mode level.

Moving to the green laser, the European Class 1 version is considerably less intense than the American Class 3 version, but still performs well. The green beam is visible at 500 metres or more depending on conditions.

Finally, there is the UV light. This is very useful for detecting stains and dirt that are invisible to the naked eye. Effective range for immediate stain detection is 5 to 10 metres, though white objects can be seen glowing at distances of tens of metres.

This is a light we would not recommend using casually around the house — you will quickly find stains and marks on walls, door handles, light switches, and floors that you had no idea were there.

Battery life and charging

Battery life varies depending on the output level in use.

Running turbo followed by high mode, the battery lasts around an hour and a half, with the peak intensity holding for around 60 seconds. Using only high mode extends runtime to just over 2 hours.

Medium mode extends runtime to around 5 hours, while low mode reaches 16 hours.

These figures apply with the built-in 1,200mAh battery. If you have no way to charge it and need more runtime, switching to 4 AAA batteries is a practical alternative.

analise wuben x5

With AAA batteries, runtime is similar across most modes — the exception is turbo, which only sustains for around 40 seconds.

Next to the mode selector sits a small LED battery indicator. Solid blue means above 90%, flashing down to 40%. Between 15% and 40% it turns solid red, and when the battery is nearly empty it flashes red.

A full charge via USB-C takes around an hour and a half.

Who is the WUBEN X5 for?

The WUBEN X5 is for anyone who needs more than a simple torch in their daily carry. It is the natural choice for professionals working in inspection, maintenance, or security — where UV light for detecting stains and fluids and a green laser for pointing or signalling are genuinely useful tools, not just marketing features.

It is also a good option for outdoor enthusiasts who want a versatile and robust torch in a pocket-friendly format, with the added benefit of the dual-power system allowing continued use with AAA batteries if the rechargeable battery runs out without access to charging.

For simple home use it may be overkill — particularly given that the UV light will reveal stains and marks on virtually every surface in the house. For anyone who simply wants an emergency torch in the glove box or a drawer, the WUBEN G5 or the E2 PULSE are more appropriate choices for the price.

Verdict on the WUBEN X5

The WUBEN X5 delivers well on its 3-in-1 proposition without any obvious compromises. The CNC-machined aluminium build at just 21mm thick and 128 grams is impressive for everything it offers, and the combination of a 1,300-lumen torch, 365nm UV light, and green laser in a single flat body is genuinely practical for anyone who uses these features day-to-day.

The main torch is positively surprising in the middle modes — the 150-lumen medium mode is sufficient for most situations, and the 350-lumen high mode is more than adequate for professional use.

analise wuben x5

The 1,300-lumen turbo mode is impressive but short-lived — understandable given the battery size. Real-world range of 100–120 metres falls short of the 200 metres advertised, but remains a solid figure for this form factor.

The dual-power system — a rechargeable 1,200mAh battery combined with AAA battery compatibility — is one of the most practical aspects of the X5, ensuring the torch is never rendered unusable by a lack of charging access.

The rotary selector for switching modes and the two tactical buttons at the top work well after a short learning period, though the learning curve is slightly steeper than single-button torches.

analise wuben x5

The absence of a magnetic mount is a noticeable limitation when you need to leave the torch suspended to work with both hands free, and the European green laser version is considerably less powerful than the American version — though it is the safer option for use around people and animals.

At €80 on the official store or €81 on Amazon, the WUBEN X5 is fair value for anyone who wants a well-built and versatile EDC torch with capabilities that go well beyond simple illumination.
