With foldables gaining increasing traction in the smartphone market — particularly with Fold-style devices — that trend is beginning to make its way, slowly, into the laptop space.
We have previously reviewed a foldable laptop from Lenovo — a glimpse of what we might expect in the commercial market before long — but we now had in hand a similar proposition that may well be more compelling right now.
ASUS has been heavily promoting the new ASUS Zenbook DUO — a highly versatile laptop that can be used as a traditional computer, or with both screens active to boost productivity without needing any additional accessories.
Over the past few weeks we had the opportunity to test this new laptop, and we are now sharing our verdict.

ASUS Zenbook DUO (UX8407) review — A laptop built to maximise productivity
Many professionals already use two monitors in their desk setup to maximise productivity. If this works at the desk, why not take the same concept on the road?
Dual-screen laptops have moved beyond being a technological curiosity to become a genuinely useful work proposition, and ASUS has taken this concept further than any other manufacturer with the Zenbook DUO.

The 2026 version is the most compact Zenbook DUO ever, with a new hidden hinge that brings the two screens close enough together to create a near-continuous visual surface of almost 20 inches.
The ASUS Zenbook DUO combines two 14-inch 3K OLED screens with a 144Hz refresh rate, 1,000-nit peak brightness, and anti-reflective coating, with an Intel Core Ultra X9 Series 3 processor capable of 45W TDP, up to 180 TOPS of AI performance, and a dual 99Wh battery promising up to 18 hours of battery life with both screens active and up to 32 hours in single-screen mode.
The Ceraluminum chassis — an ASUS-developed material that is 30% lighter and three times more resistant than conventional magnesium — the detachable Bluetooth keyboard with automatic magnetic alignment, and six speakers with Dolby Atmos complete a proposition that won both the Red Dot Design Award 2026 and the iF Award Gold 2026.
The ASUS Zenbook DUO is available for €3,099.99.

Design and build quality
ASUS had already delivered a compelling proposition with the first-generation Zenbook DUO, but has now improved it in several directions — showing that the brand listens to its customers and acts on feedback.

With the new ASUS Zenbook DUO 2026, the Taiwanese brand made a considerable step forward in structural build quality, adopting the now well-established Ceraluminum — ASUS’s proprietary material combining aluminium and ceramic — offering greater resistance than magnesium at a reduced weight for easier portability.

The hinge has also been reinforced, now rated for more than 40,000 opening cycles and up to 15 kg of pressure. It has also been redesigned — losing the previous generation’s prominent “chin” in favour of a much slimmer bezel that brings the two screens far closer to a single large-screen experience.

In terms of weight, the total comes to 1.65 kg — slightly above average, but not heavy at all given the two-screen-plus-keyboard combination.
This is a very well-built computer that, although expensive, communicates quality and functionality at every turn — enough to justify the price.
The exterior design is very clean, all grey, with only the brand logo standing out on the lid.
On the front are two screens that can be used in various configurations, along with a Bluetooth keyboard that can be placed over the lower screen for laptop mode or used independently to take full advantage of both displays.

On the left side there is an HDMI 2.1 port, two USB-C ports, a 3.5mm jack, and a ventilation outlet.

On the right there is a USB-A 3.2 Gen 2 port, another USB-C port, a second ventilation outlet, and the power button.

Port selection is a little more limited than a conventional laptop, though it is worth bearing in mind that the dual-screen structure leaves less room for connectivity.
On the underside sits the detachable kickstand for using the computer in vertical mode or at an angle with both screens open, along with the speakers and another ventilation outlet.

Also included in the box are a carry case and a stylus for drawing and writing.
Screens and visual experience
With the two screens being the headline feature of this laptop, ASUS opted for the best solutions the market has to offer.
Both panels on the ASUS Zenbook DUO feature an anti-reflective coating, peak brightness of 1,000 nits, and OLED technology.

Taken together, these are two of the best screens available in any laptop — with well-saturated and vivid colours, brightness adequate for outdoor use, and an anti-reflective coating that genuinely works and dramatically improves visibility in bright conditions.
Both displays incorporate the best technology currently available, and the laptop can be used on the move without any concern about visibility being compromised.

Different usage modes
The ASUS Zenbook DUO 2026 stands out for the great versatility it offers and the many ways in which it can be positioned.
To begin with, it can be used as a simple laptop. Place the keyboard over the second screen and work exactly as you would on a traditional laptop.

Visually, sharper eyes will notice the three-layer stack — screen, keyboard, screen — rather than the usual two, but it passes easily as a regular laptop at a glance.

However, when it is time to expand productivity on the go, this is where the laptop truly shines.
Detach the keyboard, place it on the desk, and use both screens stacked horizontally one above the other. This way you still benefit from a physical keyboard and touchpad while working across two full screens.

There is also the option of using both screens in portrait orientation — the same versatility, but better suited to content that benefits from that layout, such as text documents, spreadsheets, and so on.

In these last two modes, a kickstand built into the chassis can be deployed so the computer stands with both screens open without any additional accessories.

Keyboard, touchpad, and stylus
Beyond the screens, the ASUS Zenbook DUO keyboard was also a big surprise. It is probably one of the most comfortable keyboards we have used on a laptop, with keys that are soft and apply just the right amount of resistance to keep typing from becoming tiring.
The keyboard is impressively robust for a detachable and allows comfortable typing both in laptop mode and when placed on a desk.

The keyboard connects to the computer via a magnetic connector that also charges it when docked. On the side is a power button to switch it on and off.

The touchpad is very responsive and feature-rich, with three useful gesture zones: sliding along the right edge controls brightness, the left edge controls volume, and the top edge manages video playback.

The touchpad supports multi-touch and three- or four-finger gestures can be configured to open applications or trigger specific shortcuts.
It is very quiet and has a fingerprint-resistant coating to prevent it from becoming constantly smudged.

The pack also includes the ASUS Pen 3.0, with support for Microsoft Pen Protocol (MPP) 2.6, 4,096 pressure levels, and recognition of different pressure types.

While it is not a substitute for a professional stylus, it offers good sensitivity and ergonomics that make it comfortable for taking notes or sketching. Palm rejection is active when the stylus is in use.

ASUS software and Windows 11
The ASUS Zenbook DUO comes pre-installed with Windows 11, the latest version of Microsoft’s operating system.

Alongside the standard Windows interface and applications, ASUS has also integrated several proprietary apps.

There is a suite of tools for the video call camera, allowing image correction and filter application. ScreenXpert can also be installed — an app dedicated to simplifying window management across the two screens.

A dedicated ASUS app is also available to monitor performance and temperature data, adjust settings, and configure the additional buttons.

StoryCube is also available — an AI-powered photo gallery that catalogues and assists with file search.

Hardware expansion
If storage space becomes insufficient in the future, the ASUS Zenbook DUO 2026 allows SSD expansion.
Simply unscrew the panel on the underside to gain direct access to the slot.

Performance
The ASUS Zenbook DUO 2026 is the first laptop we have tested with the Intel Core Ultra X9 388H — Intel’s new 16-core processor with a maximum frequency of 5.1 GHz, marking the arrival of the Panther Lake architecture on the market.
The integrated Arc B390 GPU with 12 Xe cores is also a notable new addition, being the most powerful option available on this platform.

In Geekbench, the Zenbook DUO scored 3,054 in single-core and 17,175 in multi-core, outperforming comparable options such as the AMD Ryzen 9 HX 375, the Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite, and the Intel Core Ultra 7 255H. However, it still falls behind the Apple M5 found in the 14-inch MacBook Pro.
In the Cinebench stress test across ten consecutive runs, the processor showed good thermal stability, maintaining scores around 3,800 points across most runs without visible signs of throttling, with performance cores averaging 2.86 GHz.
The biggest surprise of this generation is in graphics. The Zenbook DUO clearly dominated the 3DMark tests with 13,602 points in Fire Strike and 1,434 in Steel Nomad — surpassing the AMD Radeon 890M and the M5 GPU in the MacBook Pro.
Those results are sufficient to run games such as Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 on low settings at 41–51 frames per second — something unprecedented in an ultraportable laptop with integrated graphics.
With image and video editing software, performance is also very fluid, handling even more demanding graphical workloads without significant issues.

Battery life
The ASUS Zenbook DUO also stands out for its impressive battery life — worthy of an ultrabook.
ASUS claims 32 hours with a single screen and 18 hours using both screens simultaneously.
While we did not reach those exact figures, we achieved an impressive 19 hours of web browsing and image editing with a single screen, and 12 hours in dual-screen mode.

The power saving benefit of single-screen use is clear, showing that the dual screens are a genuinely useful tool in specific situations — but should only be used when the work at hand actually justifies it.
Charging is done at 100W with the cable included in the box.
Who is the ASUS Zenbook DUO 2026 for?
The ASUS Zenbook DUO 2026 is aimed at professionals who already work with two monitors at their desk and want to take that productivity on the road without relying on external accessories.
It is the natural choice for those who move between meetings, travel, and different workspaces throughout the day and need an expanded working environment wherever they are.
It is particularly well suited to content creators, developers, designers, and video editors who benefit from having two applications open side by side on professional-quality displays.

The sharing mode with both screens in horizontal position is also a genuinely useful tool for presentations and collaborative work without needing a projector or external screen.
For students or casual users, €3,099.99 is difficult to justify.
Similarly, those who do not need the versatility of dual screens and simply want a fast, well-built laptop will find more affordable alternatives with comparable performance. The 1.65 kg weight with the keyboard is also a factor to consider for anyone carrying the laptop all day.

Verdict on the ASUS Zenbook DUO 2026
The ASUS Zenbook DUO 2026 is one of the most ambitious and well-executed propositions in the premium laptop market.
ASUS listened to the criticism aimed at the previous generation and responded with improvements across virtually every front. The new hidden hinge that eliminates the previous version’s chin transforms the dual-screen visual experience, the Ceraluminum raises build quality to a level rarely seen in this segment, and the real-world battery life of 12 hours with two screens and 19 hours with one screen is simply impressive for a laptop of this nature.

The keyboard was the most pleasant surprise of the review. In a laptop where the screens are obviously the headline, it would have been easy to overlook the keyboard — but ASUS delivered one of the most comfortable we have ever used on a laptop, with balanced tactile response and a rigidity that inspires confidence.
The performance of the Intel Core Ultra X9 388H with the Arc B390 GPU confirms that the new Panther Lake architecture is a significant step forward — particularly in graphics, where the 3DMark results and the ability to run Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 at over 40 frames per second are unprecedented in an ultraportable laptop with integrated graphics at this weight class.

The two OLED screens with anti-reflective coating, 1,000-nit brightness, and 3K resolution are of a quality that rivals the best panels on the market, and the versatility of usage modes makes this laptop genuinely adaptable to any work scenario.
The price of €3,099.99 is high but justified by the unique proposition the ASUS Zenbook DUO 2026 offers. There is currently no other laptop on the market that combines two OLED screens of this quality, this level of performance, this battery life, and this build quality in a single 1.65 kg device.
