Xiaomi Fan Heater review – Small, but with serious heating power

As the sun and warmth begin to fade, many people start thinking about heating their homes for winter.

If the Xiaomi Smart Space Heater S offers a smart and comprehensive solution that works in bathrooms and through the night, its price can be a barrier for some.

In those cases, the Xiaomi Fan Heater may be a more appealing option: a compact heater that is easy to store and position, yet delivers impressive heating output from the moment it is switched on.

Over the past few weeks we had the opportunity to test this product, and we share our opinion in this detailed review.

We tested the Xiaomi Fan Heater, a compact 2,000 W heater that starts warming instantly

When the cold sets in, not every home needs a large heater. For a spare bedroom or a home office, something small that tucks away in a corner and moves easily between rooms often does the job perfectly.

That is the idea behind the Xiaomi Fan Heater, an electric fan heater with ceramic plates — far simpler than the Mi Smart Space Heater S we reviewed previously.

There is no Wi-Fi, no app, and everything is controlled by two dials on the top — one for the mode and one for the temperature.

With 2,000 W of output, it is designed for small to medium rooms and offers four modes — two at full heat and two at 1,200 W — with a 70-degree air distribution angle.

It weighs just 2.2 kg and includes overheat protection and flame-retardant materials, making it easy to carry and safe to use.

The Xiaomi Fan Heater is available for €46.72.

Design and build quality

Aesthetically, the Xiaomi Fan Heater is a very simple, minimalist heater.

It is made of plastic and is available in white.

The front features a grille where the heat comes out, while the back has the air intake area alongside a carry handle.

On top there are two dials for adjusting the power and temperature.

At the bottom, the heater’s base is wide and provides good stability during operation.

The underside features rubber feet to prevent the unit from sliding.

At 47.1 cm tall and 17.6 cm in diameter at its widest point, it is very compact and easy to store and place anywhere.

It is also lightweight, at just 2.2 kg.

Modes and controls

The Xiaomi Fan Heater is a straightforward, easy-to-use heater. There is no smartphone or remote control — everything is done directly on the top of the unit.

Two dials are available for fine-tuning the temperature. The left one sets the power mode, with four options: 1,200 W static, 2,000 W static, 1,200 W with oscillation, and 2,000 W with oscillation.

The 2,000 W setting is best for the first few minutes of heating, when a stronger burst of warmth is needed; the 1,200 W setting is better for maintaining temperature or for a gentler, steadier heat.

The dial on the other side lets you set a target temperature so the heater pauses once it reaches the desired level. Unfortunately it has no numbered scale and can only be set by feel.

If you want app control, the Xiaomi Smart Graphene Heater — available for €79.80 — is very similar but adds Xiaomi Home compatibility for smart control.

Alternatively, a smart plug such as the Xiaomi Mi Smart Plug 2 — for €11.69 — enables remote smartphone control, consumption monitoring and statistics, and also integrates with Xiaomi Home.

Heating performance and noise

Despite its small size, the Xiaomi Fan Heater has impressive heating capacity.

The moment it is switched on, the heat output is felt immediately — within seconds it is necessary to keep hands away from the air outlet to avoid burns.

In a room of around 8 m², the temperature starts to rise after just one or two minutes, and it takes little time to reach a comfortable warmth.

It is not very cold yet, so we could not fully gauge performance at very low ambient temperatures, but at 2,000 W we raised the room temperature from 21 °C to around 25–26 °C in a short time.

Once the room is warm, 1,200 W is sufficient to maintain a comfortable temperature.

In terms of noise, the Xiaomi Fan Heater delivers on its promise, measuring below 45 dB. In our test we recorded 41 dB at maximum power.

If you want to use this heater while sleeping, while it is not particularly loud, a convection option such as the Mi Smart Space Heater S may be a better fit.

Energy consumption

To verify the stated consumption figures, we plugged this heater into a socket with a power monitor.

During the first few seconds, consumption is higher than advertised — the 2,000 W mode peaks close to 2,500 W and the 1,200 W mode climbs to nearly 1,800 W — but after that brief initial surge, consumption settles in line with the stated figures.

As a reference, with electricity priced at €0.15 per kWh, this heater costs approximately €0.18 per hour at 1,200 W and €0.30 per hour at 2,000 W.

Running it at full power for five hours a day works out to around €45 per month.

With mixed usage — one hour per day at full power and four hours at 1,200 W — the monthly cost would be approximately €30.60.

Safety

The Xiaomi Fan Heater includes a number of safety features to ensure it always operates safely.

It has overheat protection, is made with flame-retardant materials, and cuts power automatically if it tips over.

As it carries no IP rating, if used in a bathroom we recommend keeping it well away from water and avoiding excessive humidity in the room.

Who is the Xiaomi Fan Heater for?

The Xiaomi Fan Heater is aimed at anyone who wants a simple, affordable heater that is easy to move between rooms — especially for small to medium spaces such as a spare bedroom, a home office, or a corner of the living room.

It is a good choice for those who want instant warmth without paying extra for smart features they will never use.

It also works well as a supplementary solution — quickly heating a room for a short period and then maintaining the temperature at 1,200 W.

It is not the best choice for sleeping, as the fan makes more noise than a convection heater, nor for anyone who wants scheduled timers or remote control — in those cases the Xiaomi Smart Space Heater S or a smart plug are better alternatives.

Its lack of an IP rating also makes it unsuitable for bathrooms.

Verdict

The Xiaomi Fan Heater does what it promises. It starts heating the moment it is switched on, warms a small room in a matter of minutes, and 1,200 W is enough to maintain the temperature once the room is up to heat. It is compact, lightweight, stable, and easy to store.

Noise measured 41 dB at maximum power — low for a fan heater, though still louder than a convection heater for overnight use. Consumption matches the stated figures after the first few seconds, during which there is a brief surge above the advertised values.

The downsides are the lack of app or remote control, and the unmarked temperature dial that relies on feel rather than precise numbers. Running costs are also worth bearing in mind: at 2,000 W for five hours a day, the bill can reach around €45 per month.

At €46.72, it is a very competitive offer for anyone looking for a basic, effective, and easy-to-use heater.
