Over the past few days we had the opportunity to test the Xiaomi Smart Space Heater S, a smart convection heater from Xiaomi.
Here is our opinion and review of this heater.
Xiaomi Smart Space Heater S review – Heat your home quickly with this Xiaomi heater
For those who need to heat the home with a heater, Xiaomi has an excellent proposition that promises to warm rooms in just a few minutes.
We are talking about the Xiaomi Smart Space Heater S, a 2200W convection heater that emits bidirectional heat, warming rooms silently and within minutes.
It integrates 72 heating elements internally, is suitable for spaces up to 46 m², and comes with IP4X certification, allowing the heater to be used in the bathroom or other more humid locations.
It has a built-in adjustable thermostat that always shows the ambient temperature and automatically reduces power once the ideal temperature is reached.
To enable remote control, the Xiaomi Smart Space Heater S integrates Wi-Fi connectivity, allowing you to turn it on and adjust its settings from anywhere.
It also has a built-in drying rack that allows you to hang up to 1.5 kg of laundry to dry or a bath towel to warm.

Design and build quality
The Xiaomi Smart Space Heater S has a simple, minimalist look that fits any décor.
In terms of dimensions, it measures 526 × 780 × 216 mm and weighs just 5.7 kg.
It has solid build quality, being almost entirely aluminium, with the exception of the feet, which are made of plastic.
On the front you will find one of the grilles from which heat is discharged, as well as a drying rack where you can hang laundry.
On the top you will find another heat outlet, while at the bottom is the grille through which cold air enters.
Finally, on the right side you will find the panel for manually controlling the heater’s various settings.
The build includes some details that make a big difference. The corners are rounded for greater safety for both adults and children, and the feet are non-slip.
Installation and setup
Assembling the Xiaomi Smart Space Heater S is very straightforward. The heater comes almost fully assembled in the box — you only need to screw on the feet, which arrive unattached.
Once everything is assembled, plug the heater into the mains and install the Xiaomi Home app on your smartphone, where you should add the new heater.
To do so, simply tap the + in the top right corner and follow the on-screen steps. It is worth noting that the Xiaomi Smart Space Heater S only supports 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi networks.
Thanks to its IP4X certification, this heater can be installed in a bathroom without having to worry about the humidity typical of bathing.
Xiaomi Home app
To control the Xiaomi Smart Space Heater S, Xiaomi offers the Xiaomi Home app, available for Android and iOS — a very intuitive and simple app to use.
When you open the Xiaomi Smart Space Heater S options, a power button appears at the top straight away.
Once turned on, a qualitative ambient temperature indicator appears at the top — whether it is comfortable or not — and the remaining options become available.
You can then set the target temperature (18 to 28°C), schedule an automatic shut-off (1, 3, 6, 9 or 12 hours), toggle the status lights on the heater, enable or disable the sound, or activate the child lock.
Although somewhat hidden, it is also possible to find the current temperature reading for the room where the heater is located.
To do so, tap the temperature shown at the top of the Xiaomi Home app’s main page, where you will find the temperature the Xiaomi Smart Space Heater S is registering.
It is worth noting that the temperature on the main page does not update automatically — you need to open this option each time you want a real-time reading.
Since the Xiaomi Smart Space Heater S uses a Wi-Fi connection to your home router, it can be controlled from anywhere. In other words, if you are leaving work or somewhere else and want to start heating the home, you can do so through the official app.
In terms of voice assistants, there is no Amazon Alexa skill compatible with this heater — only Google Assistant can be used for this purpose.
Heating performance
We now come to the most important part: this heater’s real-world performance.
As a reminder, this is a 2200W heater — a high output necessary to deliver the rapid heating the brand promises.
This is a convection heater, where cold air enters through the bottom grille and is discharged, already warm, through the two grilles on the upper part.
This process is completely silent, with no fan, making it ideal for use at night. Since this heating uses natural air — and unlike air conditioning — it does not dry out the throat or cause dry eyes.
In practice, this heater heats up very quickly — within seconds the temperature begins to rise to a comfortable and stable level.
We tested this heater in an 8 m² bathroom, with the temperature rising from 20°C to around 24/25°C in just 5 minutes.
When used in a larger space, the temperature rise is slower and may take 10 to 20 minutes before the warmth becomes noticeable and reaches a comfortable level.
These figures will naturally depend on the size of the room and its insulation, but you can certainly expect solid heating performance.
As soon as the thermostat detects that the space has reached the set temperature, it reduces power to maintain that temperature steadily. The built-in thermostat gives a reasonable indication of the room temperature, though we noticed it has some margin of error relative to the actual temperature of the space.
In terms of consumption, we recorded 2270W during intensive heating and 940W once the Xiaomi Smart Space Heater S detected the target temperature had been reached and reduced its output.
To make drying laundry or warming a towel or clothes easier, this heater includes a drying rack that is often mistaken for a handle — something to bear in mind given the temperatures it reaches.
This rack can be used for wet clothes or towels, with a maximum permitted weight of 1.5 kg.
Finally, on the side you will find manual controls that allow you to adjust the heater’s various settings without needing to use the app.
Xiaomi Smart Space Heater S energy consumption
As mentioned earlier, the Xiaomi Smart Space Heater S consumes 2270W at peak and 940W once it stabilises the temperature.
During peak heating, based on a rate of €0.15/kWh, this heater consumes around €0.34 per hour — that is, €1.02 for three hours of use per day.
At the other extreme, at minimum consumption, the 940W translates to around €0.14 per hour — that is, €0.42 for three hours of use.
The final electricity bill will depend greatly on the space being heated and how long the heater is on. If the heater cannot reach the target temperature and runs at maximum power continuously, three hours of daily use could result in a heating bill of around €31 per month.
On the other hand, if the heater manages to warm the room in 30 minutes and then simply maintains the temperature for the rest of the time, three hours of daily heating should result in a cost of around €15.60 per month.
Who is the Xiaomi Smart Space Heater S for?
The Xiaomi Smart Space Heater S is aimed at those who want to heat rooms quickly and silently without resorting to air conditioning or a fireplace.
It is particularly well suited to those living in flats or houses without central heating who want a smart solution they can control remotely before arriving home.
The silent fan-free convection heating makes it ideal for night-time use in bedrooms or for those sensitive to noise. The IP4X certification also allows it to be installed in bathrooms — something few mid-range heaters offer.
For those looking to heat very large spaces above 30 m², or who want a low-consumption heater for prolonged use, there are more suitable alternatives. The 2270W peak consumption has a real impact on the electricity bill and should be factored in before purchasing.
Our verdict on the Xiaomi Smart Space Heater S
The Xiaomi Smart Space Heater S delivers well on its promises. The heating is genuinely fast, with the temperature rising visibly within minutes in average-sized rooms, and the completely silent operation is one of its greatest practical strengths for night-time use.
Integration with the Xiaomi Home app is straightforward, and the ability to turn the heater on remotely before arriving home is a real day-to-day convenience. The drying rack is a useful extra — especially in bathrooms where you can combine heating the room with warming towels.
The margin of error in the built-in thermostat is a less positive point, as the displayed temperature does not always match the actual room temperature. For those who need precise temperature control, it may be necessary to supplement it with an independent thermometer.
Energy consumption is the most important factor to consider before purchasing. At peak heating, the 2270W has a real impact on the electricity bill, and the difference between a well-insulated space and one with old windows can double the monthly running cost.
At €119, the Xiaomi Smart Space Heater S is a solid proposition for those wanting a smart, silent and fast heater with bathroom certification.
